GitHub repo Walkthrough video (10 min)
D.A.D. is a smart home for a person with dementia. ESP8266 sensor modules, a Raspberry Pi hub, a PHP/SQL API, and a mobile app. Four-person senior thesis.
I wrote the app and the PHP/SQL API. Login, module dashboard, reminders, contact editing, barcode pill refills, wander alarm hours, facial recognition.
The modules report to the hub over WebSockets. The hub checks each reading against safe values and calls, texts, and emails the family when one is off.
Pill dispenser with spoken reminders that sorts refills by barcode and keeps count. Smoke sensor and a stove knob that shuts off on smoke or a finished timer. Ultrasonic bath sensor that fires when the tub is nearly full. Hall-effect sensor that knows when the washer or dryer is done. Reed switch on the door.
Wander alarm. If the phone is more than a quarter mile from home during the hours the family set, or the door opens, every caretaker gets a call, a text, and an email.
Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, top 100 of 7,000+. $6,500 for the school. I wrote a thesis on the build.
